What is a letter of indemnity?
A letter of indemnity is a promise that USDA office will receive the original health
certificate at a later date if a replacement certificate is issued today. The
replacement certificate is reissued from a copy of the original and the letter of
indemnity. Letter of indemnity reissue is preferred when the original is either not
in possession or lost.
